From JohnnyBae to Journey Abroad: John Kenneth Sulit’s Leap from Business to Student Life
Written by: Rizi Valerie Tayao
This April, we’re proud to feature one of our remarkable students, John Kenneth Sulit, whose journey reminds us that it’s never too late to chase new dreams—especially when fueled by love, passion, and purpose.
Kenneth is a devoted husband to Aileen and a loving father to Keileen and Klea. Born in Baliuag, Bulacan and currently residing in Candaba, Pampanga, his path has taken several turns—from working overseas to becoming a food entrepreneur, and now, an international student in Australia.
The Early Grind
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurial Management from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Kenneth explored various jobs across industries. Eventually, he found himself working in Taiwan as a machine operator. But when the pandemic hit, he returned to the Philippines to be with his family—and to begin again.
From One Pares Sulit to JohnnyBae
Back home, Kenneth decided to venture into the food business. His first attempt was One Pares Sulit, offering classic Filipino dishes like Pares (beef stew with rice) and Mami (egg noodle soup). Sadly, the business only lasted five months.
But that didn’t stop him.
In early 2021, Kenneth launched JohnnyBae, a fried chicken stand that quickly gained local popularity. He eventually expanded to six locations across Pampanga and Bulacan, proving that with grit and determination, setbacks can be stepping stones.
A New Chapter in Australia
In April 2023, Kenneth and Aileen approached us at BrightPath Visa Consultancy to start a new chapter through education. Kenneth chose to study at the Australian Academy of Hospitality Management (AAHM), enrolling in a 130-week program that included Certificate IV in Kitchen Management and Diploma of Hospitality Management.
Once his Certificate of Enrolment was issued and all requirements were completed, we lodged his student visa application—and on May 2, 2023, it was granted.
Just weeks later, Kenneth boarded a plane to Australia, eager to begin his studies and immerse himself in a new culture.
Reunited in a Foreign Land
By August, Aileen shared with us that the distance was taking a toll on her. She missed her husband deeply. After just two weeks of completing her requirements, we lodged her subsequent entrant visa, and that same month—just like Kenneth—she got her golden ticket.
Now together in Australia, Kenneth and Aileen are thriving.
Life Down Under
Today, Kenneth works part-time as a cook at New College UNSW, preparing meals for 350 to 400 students a day. Aileen works as a Customer Assistant at H2O Laundry Shop in New South Wales. They're living proof that with trust, patience, and commitment, big dreams do come true.
Kenneth hopes to apply for post-study work opportunities after completing his program. With his strong business background and newfound skills in hospitality and kitchen management, he’s in a great position to take JohnnyBae to the next level—perhaps with a fresh twist Down Under.
The Power of Preparation
Throughout the process, Kenneth and Aileen showed us what it means to be ideal applicants. They provided genuine documents, trusted the process, and worked closely with us on a detailed business plan. Their engagement and transparency made all the difference—and ultimately contributed to a smooth and successful visa application.
Courses like the ones Kenneth is taking can offer so much value to future entrepreneurs:
Managing inventory and food costs
Enhancing menu pricing and kitchen operations
Creating a warm and welcoming customer experience
Understanding industry best practices and trends
Handling customer service and feedback professionally
And most importantly, they boost credibility for both customers and potential investors.
Our Message to You
At BrightPath, we’re incredibly proud of Kenneth—not just for choosing us, but for choosing himself. He took the bold step of turning his passion into a long-term plan. And with Aileen by his side, the journey is even more meaningful.
